Why it matters

Why Auto Discovery Matters for Growing Infrastructure

Keep your infrastructure up to date with Ezeelogin Automatic Server Discovery. This feature enables Ezeelogin to automatically detect and import new servers into the gateway, eliminating the need to manually add hosts as your environment grows.
The discovery process is powered by an automated discovery script that runs on a scheduled basis using a cron job. This allows organizations to continuously synchronize their infrastructure with Ezeelogin, reducing administrative effort, minimizing configuration drift, and ensuring secure access to newly provisioned systems.
Simply define an IP address range or CIDR block, and Ezeelogin will periodically scan the network to identify available servers. Any newly discovered hosts can be automatically imported, ensuring your server inventory remains accurate and current.
Whether you’re managing a small network or a large-scale enterprise infrastructure, Automatic Server Discovery streamlines server onboarding and helps maintain a centralized, up-to-date inventory for privileged access management.
How It Works

How Automatic Server Discovery Works

01

Define the scope

Define the IP range or CIDR block to scan.

02

Configure the schedule

Configure the automatic discovery schedule using cron.

03

Network scan runs

Ezeelogin scans the specified network at the configured intervals.

04

Servers are imported

Newly discovered servers are automatically imported into the Ezeelogin gateway for centralized management.

Key Benefits

Key Benefits of Automated Server Discovery

Ezeelogin becomes the central gateway where new infrastructure is automatically discovered, added, and access-provisioned.

Zero Manual Onboarding

New servers spun up inside a known range or CIDR block are found and imported without anyone adding them by hand.

Scheduled, Unattended Scans

A cron job runs the discovery script daily, weekly, or monthly — infrastructure growth never waits on an admin's calendar.

Automatic SubSSH Provisioning

Every newly discovered server has its managed SubSSH users created immediately, so access is ready the moment it's added.

Duplicate-Safe Scanning

IP addresses already registered in Ezeelogin are skipped, so re-running discovery never creates duplicate entries.

Bulk-Friendly Input

Feed in a single IP range, a CIDR block, or a full CSV of servers and credentials — discovery scales to whatever list you give it.

Full Discovery Audit Trail

Every scan is logged, so you always know exactly which servers were added, skipped, or failed — and why.

Flexible Inputs

Define Discovery Scope However Your Infrastructure Is Organized

No proprietary inventory format—use your existing server inventory, naming conventions, and organizational structure.

IP Range

Specify a start and end IP with the SSH port, username, and password shared across the range.

					e.g. 192.168.56.102–111

CIDR Block

Point discovery at a whole subnet in CIDR notation and let it scan every address inside it.

					e.g. 192.168.56.0/24

CSV Import

Upload a CSV of name, IP, port, credentials, and server group to populate the Auto Discovery tab in bulk.

name, ips, port, user, password, servergroup

Getting Started

How to Set Up Auto Discovery in Ezeelogin

Four steps, and every future run happens on its own.

01

Enable API access

Turn on Enable API and Server API from the Servers tab so discovery can add servers automatically.

02

Define scope

Add an IP range or CIDR block in the GUI, or upload a CSV of servers, ports, credentials, and groups.

03

Schedule the cron job

Add auto_discovery.php to crontab to run daily, weekly, or monthly — or trigger it manually any time.

04

Servers import themselves

Reachable servers are added and their managed SubSSH users created automatically — check Servers and the discovery logs to confirm.

How it compares

Ezeelogin Auto Discovery vs. Manual Add & Basic Import Scripts

Most teams either add servers one by one or hand-roll a CSV import script. Here’s what that trade-off actually looks like.
Capability
Ezeelogin Auto Discovery
Manual Add, One by One
Basic CSV Import Script
Scheduled, recurring scans via cron
Only if you build it
Scan a full IP range or CIDR block
Range only, no CIDR
Skips servers already registered
Depends on admin memory
Automatic managed SubSSH user creation
Per-run discovery logs
Depends on setup
Setup effort
Minutes, in-app + cron
Hours, per server
Custom scripting required
How it compares

Ezeelogin Auto Discovery vs. Manual Add & Basic Import Scripts

Most teams either add servers one by one or hand-roll a CSV import script. Here’s what that trade-off actually looks like.
Fleet Growth

A new batch of production servers comes online overnight

Without Auto Discovery

Someone has to notice the new IPs and manually add every server to the gateway one at a time.

With Ezeelogin

The next scheduled CIDR scan automatically finds the new servers, adds them to the gateway, and provisions SubSSH users instantly.

Outcome: New servers are access-ready before anyone asks for them.
Bulk Onboarding

You're migrating a list of 200 servers from a spreadsheet

Without Auto Discovery

Servers are added individually, requiring credentials to be entered repeatedly.

With Ezeelogin

Upload the spreadsheet as a CSV and the discovery engine imports every reachable server automatically in one pass.

Outcome: One CSV upload replaces hundreds of manual entries.
Conflict Handling

A discovered server shares a hostname with one already added

Without Auto Discovery

The duplicate remains unnoticed until someone accidentally connects to the wrong server.

With Ezeelogin

Discovery immediately reports the exact "Server Exists" conflict so administrators can resolve it before production.

Outcome: Hostname conflicts appear in logs—not in production.

Auto Discovery FAQ

It scans an IP range, CIDR block, or CSV list you configure, connects to each address over SSH with the credentials provided, and imports every server it can reach then creates its managed SubSSH users automatically.

Auto discovery is available from Ezeelogin version 7.47.0 onward. Gateways on an older version need to be upgraded first.

No. Discovery can also be triggered manually by running the auto_discovery.php script directly on the gateway, in addition to any scheduled cron job.
IP addresses already registered in Ezeelogin are skipped during the scan, so the scanned count only reflects new or unregistered servers, not the full range or CSV list.
This happens when the discovered server’s hostname is already associated with a different IP address in Ezeelogin, which blocks the new entry from being added under the same name.
Once a server is successfully added through discovery, Ezeelogin automatically creates all configured managed SubSSH users on that server — no separate step required.
